Our spaces

The Castle Cinema is made up of three wonderful spaces - Screen 1, Screen 2 and the bar.

The bar/cafe is open everyday from 10am-11pm (earlier close on Sundays).

We have three different types of private hire:

1. Screen 1 (82 seats)
Private use of the screening room + shared use of the bar

2. Screen 2 (27 seats)
Private use of the screening room + shared use of the bar

3. Exclusive venue/bar hire* (125 standing, 82 seated)
Private use of the bar and both screening rooms, venue closed to the public

*Bar Hire: Due to the layout of the venue it's not possible to hire the bar privately without hiring both screening rooms too. So if you’re looking for private bar use, ‘exclusive venue hire’ is the option for you!

Screen 1

This beautiful auditorium has space for 82 bums on 82 comfy armchairs.

The building was originally built as a cinema back in 1913 and we are incredibly lucky to have retained many of its original features. The original proscenium arch takes pride of place with its ornate plasterwork alongside the beautiful curved ceiling, both of which are highlighted in gold.

The front two rows of seats are removable, providing a larger staging area in front of the screen for guest speakers or intimate performances. In fact, all the armchairs are moveable if needed. This comes in handy, especially for film shoots!

Screen 1 is popular for post-film Q&As and panel sessions. We can set-up additional chairs and provide microphones. Speakers can join remotely and appear live on the big screen!

This space is also great for company presentations & training days. Use our lectern to present from your laptop, and make use of the bar/cafe space for your lunch break & networking drinks! We have unlimited hot drinks & pastries packages available.

Screen 2

Originally the projection room, this space has been transformed into an opulent second screen with 27 seats, including six deluxe sofas.

Equipped with 7.1 surround sound and a stunning 4m screen, this intimate screening room oozes luxury and exclusivity.

Screen 2 is especially popular for private birthday screenings and local filmmakers organising test screenings.

When the lights go down and the film starts rolling, you’ll forget the outside world exists...

Bar



Our fabulous bar has space for 82 seated and 125 standing.

We have an array of different seating and various layout options, depending on the occasion. Why not make use of our DJ booth? We’ll get the dance floor ready…

Our fully licensed bar can cater to any event. Compliment your matinee screening with freshly baked pastries and Dark Arts coffee. Or make it a night to remember with our bespoke cocktails, carefully curated wine list and rotating local beers on tap. And of course, there’s always an endless supply of popcorn...

We also have a kitchen space available and we can accommodate external catering in the bar area for certain events.

We’re available for hire 7 days a week, 06:00-01:00 (later licence available on request). We host a huge range of events but some of our most popular are:

2hr screening + shared use of the bar

Host a screening then enjoy post-screening drinks in the bar

For private screenings, you can watch anything you supply on DVD, BluRay or DCP (to be received one week prior).
For public screenings (tickets sold), email us for more info on film licensing & ticket sales.

We have a hire minimum of 2hrs, but just let us know if you need longer.
If you’d like to show your short film multiple times within your 2hr slot this can be arranged, however there is a maximum guest capacity.

Film shoots

Why hire a bar, cafe and cinema separately? The Castle has all three…
Hire the whole venue from £320+VAT per hour.

Other great features include:

Lighting: independently controlled dimmers / switches for all circuits.
There's not one window in the whole venue, so there's absolutely no light pollution.

Sound: we’re tucked away so you can’t hear the outside world! And we can turn off all bar equipment to give you that sweet silence.

Tech: you can use the projectors free of charge and connect via laptop HDMI (controlled from within the screening room). Or play from DVD, BluRay or DCP.

Workspace: strong wifi and loads of plug points for your crew.

Break-out space: with full venue hire, you can use Sc2 as a dressing room or breakaway space for actors & crew.

Furniture: all seats in Screen 1 are moveable. All bar furniture & decoration is moveable apart from central banquet & fixed lamps.

Refreshments: great coffee and lunch options on site, or flexibility to organise external catering.

Availability: we understand your schedule may come together last minute and we do our best to accommodate last-minute requests whenever we can!

Kids party

We offer a couple of kids party packages...

screen 1 (50 guests) £400+VAT / Screen 2 (27 guests) £300+VAT
This includes:

- Exclusive use of a screening room on a Sat or Sun morning (10am - 12pm)
- Any film of your choice (up to 2hrs runtime) - deliver it on BluRay/DVD a week before your event, or we can help order it.

Full Venue Party Package

Wedding reception? Film premiere? Birthday party?
This is the package to choose if you want exclusive use of the bar as well as the screening rooms!

With our full venue party package you can arrange external catering, put up decorations, use our DJ booth in the bar and dance the night away!

Our party package also includes ‘personalised readograph message’ at no extra cost & 10% discount on any pre-ordered fizz or wine (10+ bottles).
